Personal Relations at the Workplace

Always be careful in your interactions with people at the workplace. Your private life should not interfere with your work. If you are being approached by an attractive co-worker or a professional contact, you should be careful how you respond. If you are not interested in pursuing a relationship with that person, you should make your disinterest clear in a polite way. You may also want to stay away from office romances if your company is very strict about such matters.

Employees are vulnerable to unwanted behavior in the workplace. If that happens to you, you should do your best to avoid the person. It is best to report such behavior to your human resources department, but you should also tell your supervisor.

If you are being badly treated, you should also file a complaint with the police. It is important to report every incident to the police in order to send a message to the person that their behavior is unacceptable.

“If your flirting strategy is indistinguishable from pestering, it’s not everyone else that’s the problem.”

― John Scalzi

If you feel that you are in a hostile work environment, you should file a complaint with your employer. This will require you to tell your boss why you are feeling uncomfortable and what you would like for him to do to fix the situation.

If you have already told your employer about the problem and he did nothing, you can file a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). This will allow you to file a lawsuit against your employer and it will allow the EEOC to investigate the matter. You should speak to an attorney if you have been treated unfairly. An attorney may be able to help you file a complaint and file a lawsuit against the employer.
