Finding your dream job is not difficult if you know how to do it. It doesn’t matter if you are a new graduate with almost zero experience. You can still be an employable person. Here is how:

Find out what you are good at

Not everyone is good at everything. You have your own set of skills and talents, and your own set of weaknesses. It is important to identify your strong points so that you can build on them.

I recommend that you start by taking the free Holland Code Assessment. It is a simple set of questions that will only take 2 minutes of your time. It will help you figure out your personality type and strengths.

After you have identified your strengths and weaknesses it is time to move on to the next step.

Figure out what you want to do

It is no secret that working in an area that you are passionate about makes for a more fulfilling and enjoyable experience. Your career is the biggest part of your life, and is something that you will inevitably spend most of your time doing. Why not choose something that you love?

Imagine what your ideal job is. Try to think of the activities that you enjoy doing the most, and also those that you are the best at. Write them down.

What do you enjoy doing the most? What activity do you do best?

Now, think about how you can turn those things into a job. A great idea would be to look for something that combines those things.

For example, if you enjoy playing the guitar and you are good at it, you can become a guitar teacher or a session musician.

Or maybe you are good at singing. You can become a professional singer in a band or a solo artist.

“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”

— Confucius

Think about the following questions:

  • What do you enjoy doing?
  • What are you good at?
  • What are you passionate about?
  • What do you want to do the most?

Once you have figured out what you would like to do, you can start searching for a relevant job.

Find out what is in demand

You will be much more successful if you find a job that is in demand. This way, you will be able to find a job much faster and at a better pay rate.

There are many sites that can help you figure out what jobs are in demand and which ones are not. A great resource is the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

If you are having trouble determining what jobs are in demand, look for jobs that are in high demand in your city. The more in demand a job is, the easier it is to find a job.

Find out if there is a demand for your skillset

Your skillset is one of the most important factors when it comes to finding a job.

If you are a good generalist and have a basic set of skills, you are much more employable.

If you are a specialist with a high level of skills, it will also be easier for you to find a job.

The best jobs are the ones that combine a high level of skills and a high demand.
